Ex-Bucs star down and out 2014-07-14 ONCE the pride of Orlando Pirates, Joseph Dukuduku Makhanya is appealing to clubs for a chance to put bread on the table. Makhanya will always be remembered as one of the most loyal and exciting footballers of his era, the fire in the belly of the Bucs team coached by Kosta Papic that missed the Premier Soccer League crown by a mere point in 2005. Unlike most of his peers who sulked when benched, Makhanya famously stuck it out until Papic coerced the best out of him. He once said: I will work hard to earn a place in the team. Now 32 and without a team since the 2011-2012 season, he is desperate to get a team or anything to put bread on the table because I have a wife and two children. Added the diminutive midfielder: I have tried to keep in shape but I guess I must find something to support my family if I cant find a club. Right now I feel down and out. I am frustrated because as the head of the house I have to provide for my family. I am working on something else if I cannot find a team. Makhanya has been unable to get a contract after it expired with Moroka Swallows at the end of 2012. Time waits for no man and I am not getting any younger, he said. I should be actively involved with the game at this time of my age, my legs can still carry me for another season or two. But if nothing comes up soon I may call it quits. Makhanya made 140 appearances for the Buccaneers after joining them in 2000. He left the club in 2011. He had a brief encounter with Mpumalanga Black Aces, where he played 11 games in 2011. He has one Bafana Bafana cap to his credit.
