Exactly 2 years ago tomorrow, I attended New Volunteer Orientation at the SFSPCA North Ranch & became a horse rescue volunteer. It was not a decision I took lightly! I did so with family & friends telling me I would never be able to handle the heartache after shutting myself off from horses for 20 yrs due to the heartache of losing my own horse. They quickly realized that the joy this brought to my life far outweighed the heartache & that it helped me finally get over a loss that I was unable to heal from. Becoming associated with the SFSPCA & abused/neglected horses, was one of the best and most life-changing decisions I have ever made. It has not always been easy but the rewards have been many these past 2 years. I have met many brave & wonderful horses. Sadly, some too injured to continue on & happily many who have found loving forever homes. I like to think that I may even have played a small role in helping some of those horses get adopted. I have met some of the most caring, compassionate & amazing people...many of whom have become some of my closet friends, I have been in a position that allows me to combine my love of teaching with my love of horses & I have fulfilled my dream of adopting a horse of my own. It has been an amazing two yrs.!!! It is a new year and with it will come new challenges, joys & heartaches with the rescues. But I am ready & wouldnt have it any other way! One of the upcoming SFSPCA projects that I am most excited about is being asked to write a childrens book about horse rescue in an effort to teach our youth about love, respect & compassion for horses & all animals. Thank-you to Ellyn Robinson who approached me and will collaborate with me on the book project. We have begun the process and I am beyond excited! So thank-you South Florida SPCA - Dedicated to Horse & Animal Rescue for enriching my life these past 2 yrs and bringing me great joy and Hope:) I will be forever grateful! Now it is off to bed so I can be at the ranch bright & earlyi n the a.m. to help welcome a new group of volunteers!:)Perfect!
