Exactly 49 years ago today, 1,500 Filipino Americans in their twilight years took a Last Stand against an unjust American system and made American history. The following from Casimiro U. Tolentino: On September 8, 1965, Filipino farmworkers refused to harvest grapes at ten Delano grape farms, initiating the seminal Delano Grape Strike of 1965. This strike was led by Larry Itliong and Phillip Veracruz, leaders of the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee. This strike was the genesis for the United Farmworkers Union (UFW). Please send out as a reminder of the role Filipino farmworkers played in bringing social justice and dignity in the fields of California.
