Exactly a year ago, I lost one of the most important men in my life, my grandfather. Our last conversation was about how I got engaged under the windmills of Bangui. And just like the supportive grandpa that he is, he was beaming, smiling contently that his first grandchild was going to get her happy ever after. One thing about my grandpa is that he is selfless. He was fighting for his life on April 25, Bobbys birthday, and like a little child asking for a favor, I whispered to him, Pa, please hold on a little longer, I dont want this to be a sad day. I dont know if he heard it, but he did. He gave his last breath the next day. I thought April 26 was always going to be a sad day. But now, Ive realized that Im celebrating two straight birthdays. Papas new birthday in heaven. Another angel to watch over me. Happy birthday, Pa! Miss you everyday.
