Exciting News! New Atlanta Preschool-12 School Is A Reality: Greenfield Hebrew Academy and Yeshiva Atlanta Announce Plans to Combine for New College Prep School With great passion and excitement, Katherine and Jacob Greenfield Hebrew Academy (GHA) and Yeshiva Atlanta (YA) are proud to announce that together, they will create a new Preschool-12 college preparatory day school, the first of its kind in Atlanta. After months of exploration and due diligence, the agreement to merge was approved by the Boards of both schools on March 12, 2014. Legally this decision will take effect at the conclusion of the current school year, and we are pleased to announce the appointment of Ian Ratner, a current GHA and YA parent and well-known community leader, as Board President of the newly-formed school. I am honored and thrilled to be a part of the new schools future, Ratner said. Both GHA and YA have amazing attributes that will be magnified as a result of this merger. We know from our research that the Preschool -12 grade model is clearly a best practice. Additional information regarding Board composition and an update on a new Head of School will be provided in the near future. Other announcements will follow as we embark on this exciting journey together. The partnering of these two Jewish schools will facilitate a new level of educational excellence in a positive Jewish environment, said Nancy Weissmann, Board President of YA. Both schools individually are in a strong position financially and educationally, and by combining resources, we will be able to give our students the best education possible. We are excited about the possibilities of what we can create for our community by working together, said Judy Stolovitz, President of GHAs Board. To paraphrase Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, we want to inspire young Jews in Atlanta to believe in and live a Judaism that is tolerant, inclusive, embracing and non-judgmental, that is intellectually open. Thats what our new school will do for our communitys children. This school will compete with top private Atlanta schools, focusing on academic excellence and following best practices established throughout the country. It will be a place for all families who desire a superior academic program, as well as a strong Jewish education and environment. The entire 120,000-person Atlanta Jewish Community will be embraced by, and will benefit from, this innovative new approach. The development of new leading-edge programs will prepare the schools students for the future; plans for a unique, exceptional educational program that builds on the STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) curriculum and integrates and leverages arts for comprehensive STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) curriculum are in the works. GHA, established in 1953, and YA, created in 1972, will combine efforts, expanding not only their academic offerings, but also Early Childhood Development, fine arts, athletic and Judaic programs. The warmth, caring, joy and excitement that are ever-present in the halls of both GHA and YA will grow even stronger as our community works together to ensure a strong future for our children and these beloved institutions, said Michael Horowitz, CEO/President of Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta. Both schools are continuing their on-going operations and we encourage families interested in the new school to call and visit NOW! There is a lot of work to be done and as the process evolves, we will keep you advised with updates via the informational portal (anotherbrick). Plans are in place to conduct information forums in the future. We will keep you informed as we move forward with this exciting venture together. We look forward to hearing from you.
