Excuse the somewhat geeky reflections/notes I did this morning on Jesus as the the Way and the Gate: - That is to say, Jesus is the category through which time and history and the whole human race must pass. - Jesus is the Way, he *is* the Way. And therefore the Way is Jesus! - He is also the Gate (Jn.10). The Gateway/Threshold through which we must pass to gain access to the true knowledge of God. - Its not he was the Way or Gate but he is these. That means that he is both gate or entry point as well as the ongoing way. We enter through the gate and we stay on the way. We always enter through Jesus (and this passing through must leave a lasting impact) but we also continue in the Way. - He is eye of the needle through which we must pass to get to the Father - Kierkegaard wanted to lead his readers to a narrow pass; he says his task is where possible to induce the many, to invite them, to stir them to press through this narrow pass. If I can appropriate his language here, this is what we can say about Jesus--we need to press into God through him as well as abide in him. He will mark us, we belong to Him. - Jesus is the Medium who is the Message and the Message who is Medium Might be gobbledegook to you, but it was very meaningful to me. :)
