Exercise Science majors Norah Snow 14 and Amanda Kimball 14 represented Colby-Sawyer at the 18th annual undergraduate Posters on the Hill event. Their submission Are the ACSM Metabolic Calculations for Walking Accurate for College Aged Females was one of 60 posters selected among the 600 received. Professor Kerstin Stoedefalke mentored students on the poster project, while Professor Jean Eckrich accompanied them to Washington, D.C. Sponsored by the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR), the Posters on the Hill event is hosted annually to engage U.S. Congress in the research and education programs they fund. At the evening poster session students spoke directly to members of Congress, federal funding agencies and foundations to explain and demonstrate how students have been impacted by these programs. CUR encourages undergraduates from both public and private predominantly undergraduate institutions and research universities to participate in Posters on the Hill. The non-for-profit organization believes the event has a positive impact on the future of federal funding for undergraduate research. “Nothing more effectively demonstrates the value of undergraduate research than a student participants words, work, and stories,” explains CUR. “Undergraduate research must be among those programs that members of Congress understand if it is to continue to be supported, and to grow.”
