Exhaust Notes McLaren P1: Zero to 60 in under 2.8 seconds The superlatives dont end there on this $1.15 million hypercar. By Clifford Atiyeh 10 hours ago Share 365 Share 77 123 Thats the headline you will see all today and all week, because a performance stat like that is worth yelling from the top of the hills. Or rather, from McLarens sterilized, ultramodern Woking, U.K., headquarters. The companys first $1.15 million P1 hypercar is now in one lucky customers garage, and McLaren has reason to brag. Its 903-horsepower hybrid V8 powertrain gets the P1 to 100 kph (62 mph) in 2.8 seconds -- without the benefit of all-wheel-drive -- while delivering an EU-estimated 34 mpg during regular driving. It will also run in full-electric mode for up to 6.8 miles. By comparison, the almighty Bugatti Veyron can do the sprint (as we see it, from zero to 60 mph) in 2.5 seconds. The real test? The P1 reaches 300 kph (186 mph) in 16.5 seconds, or 5.5 seconds sooner than the vaunted McLaren F1, of which only about 100 were built between 1993 and 1998. However, the P1s 217 mph top speed loses to the F1s God-like 240. During braking, the P1 can stop from 100 kph in 99 feet. And itll run the quarter-mile in 9.8 seconds at 152 freaking mph. If the MP4-12C is any example, well bet its beyond brilliant -- at least until we get the official stats for the Ferrari LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder.
