Extreme weather systems (flash floods, super typhoons unknown in history, heat waves and severe droughts) are caused by carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere by daily activities of humankind. Carbon dioxide is absorbed by plants and trees, but we emit more of this day by day even as we cut down trees and destroy our rainforests in record pace. So theres excess greenhouse gasses trapped over the Earths surface that cause changes in normal climate patterns. Deniers of the existence of this global phenomenon have difficulties accepting this as a scientific fact, thereby slowing the concerted effort to combat climate change. The US of A is one of the major industrialized nations that emit these harmful gasses, and is also one of the major global players to champion the necessary remedial measures in the UN. But it does not help if in their homefront they elected to their senate and would likely appoint to the environment committee a staunch climate change denier.
