Ezra 1:1-5 Raised Up by God Many servants of Jesus Christ - TopicsExpress

Ezra 1:1-5 Raised Up by God Many servants of Jesus Christ have become careless or discouraged today in their service for Him because they have forgotten that the Lord can accomplish His will through seemly impossible circumstances. Todays text reveals the miracle that God worked in the heart of King Cyrus, whose proclamation opened the door for a faithful remnant of Gods people, who had been in a seemly hopeless captivity for seventy years, to return to Jerusalem. Who possibly could have imagined such a thing! No matter how impossible our situation may appear to be at any given moment, our omnipotent and omniscient God will always perform His Word to the very letter. The faithful remnant of workers were soon to discover how the Lord could use even their meager efforts to accomplish His purposes for the entire nation. The faithful remnant who returned to Jerusalem to do Gods work were ones whose spirit God had raised (v.5). The invitation and challenge given by King Cyrus might have attracted those with an adventurous spirit, but the work that God had for them could not be preformed by anyone except those whose motivation was the result of Gods work in their hearts. Yes, the Lords workmen can often use human wisdom and innate skill, but apart from His enabling, they cannot overcome the strain of the battle that puts the servants of God into conflict with satanic principalities and powers (Eph.6:11-12). Christians can be overawed by the enormity of the work that God has called them to do when, instead, they should be standing in awe of the Lord and His Word (Psa.119:161). Gods enabling will always accompany His call to serve. MHR
