FACTS ABOUT BABYLON (22) Every day and everywhere, people are boasting about church growth. And what is the growth? Not necessarily growth in Christ or into Christ, but increase in membership which is proportionate to increase in financial fortunes. That is why men in overambitious zeal rush to open churches. And of course, it is not too difficult to open churches nowadays. All you need do is map out the most digitized logistics and strategies: add the leaven of enticing words of human wisdom, the sugar of glib-tongued, eloquent and highly theologically trained ministers endowed with the power of sophistry; pour in the oil of spiritual semblance; spice the dough with colorful advertisements, posters and handbills; mix the contents with a well-organized crusade; place it on the pan of greed; and bake it on the oven of fervent prayers and intercessions. There you have your well baked church, fresh from the fire, of which you are the president and founder! Do not relent; keep adding fuel to the flame. Pour in more leaven by launching appeal funds. This you can do by inviting influential statesmen and stateswomen, a few members of the House, notable politicians, business magnets, etc. And as they do honor to your invitation do one or two things to impress them: heap encomia on them, flatter them, play the sycophant anyhow, and with sweet words let them know how great, consequential, benevolent, philanthropic and godly they are even in the midst of all their rottenness, so that they may dip deep into their pockets and donate generously. In the next couple of months, watch the population and financial strength of your newly founded church grow in a geometrical progression!
