FAQS about PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) 1. What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)? Platelet-Rich Plasma or PRP is derived from the patient’s blood. Processing the patient’s blood specimen in a centrifuge separates the blood components and concentrates the platelets in the plasma. The concentrated platelets found in PRP are rich in growth factors along with bioactive proteins that are vital to initiate and accelerate tissue repair and regeneration. These bioactive proteins increase stem cell production to initiate connective tissue healing, bone regeneration and repair, promote development of new blood vessels, and stimulate the wound healing process. 2. What are the potential benefits of treatment? Patients may see a significant improvement in symptoms, as well as a remarkable return of function. This may eliminate the need for more aggressive treatments such as long-term medication use or surgery. 3. How many PRP therapy treatments are needed? While response to the therapy will vary, each patient’s are required 4 injections. Each injection is spaced approximately one week apart. There is no limit to the number of treatments a person can have. The risks and side effects do not change with the number of injections. 4. Is PRP right for me? If you have a tendon or ligament injury, or degenerated joints, and traditional methods have not provided lasting relief, then PRP therapy may be the solution. The procedure is less aggressive and less expensive than surgery. It may heal tissue with minimal or no scarring, and alleviate further degeneration of the tissues 5. How soon can I go back to regular activities? PRP therapy helps regenerate tendons and ligaments, but it is not a quick fix. This therapy is stimulating the growth of new tissue, requiring time and rehabilitation. During the treatment process, most people are able to resume normal activities and exercise. 6. Is PRP safe and affordable? Yes, the risk is minimal because the treatment uses your own blood platelets and plasma, thereby eliminating the risk for disease transmission and your body rejecting it. Very affordable and it is an alternative to surgery. 7. What Conditions are treated with PRP? PRP Injections can treat a number of conditions for the hip, knee, arm, shoulder, lower leg and feet. It is best to consult with your physician for a complete listing. However, below is an abbreviated list of conditions that can be treated with PRP. Acute muscle tears and strains Chronic Tendinopathies (tennis elbow, Achilles tendon, patellar tendon and rotator cuff) Ligament injuries (ie: medial or lateral collateral ligament—MCL/LCL) Osteoarthritis Psoriasis Chronic Wound Diabetes - PRP is also use for FACE Rejuvenation and HAIR enhancement Our centres: Call us to make an appointment for your FREE Consultation.
