FAQs and RULES (Check, please.) > How do I enter the Picture Of The Day (POTD) contest? A. - Attach a single photo (sized no more than 900 pixels on the longest side, with a file size no bigger than 399 kb) to an email, using the CATEGORY NAME as the SUBJECT LINE, and mail to: herbsaudades@gmail. Include the photos title and the name of the photographer in the text area of the email. > How often can I enter the contest? A. - You may enter one photo per category, per day. Each category entered requires a separate email. (This will get much easier when we are on our dedicated web site) > How long is my entry valid to win POTD? A. - Entries remain in the judging pool for seven days, then are deleted. You may re-enter the same image at any time after its week in the judging pool, if you wish. > Who is doing the judging and how is it done? A. - We have one anonymous judge for each of the categories. They rotate categories each day. These judges were each invited to their position based upon their accomplishments in and mastery of photography technique. Their service and their time is volunteered and they should be respected for this. Their selections are made independently and are based upon their own feelings of what constitutes a winning photograph. Each judge is required to tell the participants why each image is selected - these are called Judges comment and appear with every POTD. > What are the categories? A. 1. Landscapes - Any broad scenic view of natural or, in the case of city skylines or bridges, manmade beauty. This category includes sea vistas, river or waterfall studies and/or scenic skies. 2. People - Portraiture formally posed or candids of people. 3. Animals - Natural, posed; domestic or wild. 4. Still Life - Studies of light, textures, spacial relationships and composition, featuring objects that cannot move on their own. 5. Flowers and Friends - Includes insects, nectar-feeding birds and all (broad or macro) floral-subject dominant displays. 6. Miscellany - Photos that do not seem to fit into any other category. 7. Photo Creations Similar to the old cafes DA (digital art) category, this allows for unlimited post-production work and opens the door to full imaginative possibilities that are photo-based. 8. Keeping It Real - This category combines former separate categories photojournalism with street photography. This new category is for candid photos based upon the real stories of life. > How much editing and post-production work is allowed for each category? A. - Categories 1 - 6 (above) will require the photo to appear as a camera-produced photograph. How this is accomplished through post-production is up to the photographer, but the image cannot appear to the casual viewer to have been manipulated. The category of Photo Creations is given the fullest range of editing technique and creative digital manipulation in post-production. The category of Keeping It Real is a combination of photojournalism and Strret Photography and is restricted to global adjustments to Brightness, Contrast and Sharpening only. When will the actual site be up and operating? A. – Not later than December 20, 2013. > What if I have questions not included here? A. - post any other questions as a text post, located to the right of this FAQ and Rules post. There are staff members watching that area daily, who are glad to assist you.
