FHS 12– Tragedy - Vernon Kienholz My Grandmother Hazel Myers Marsh had a sister, Elva. Elva Myers married Elmer Kienholz, and had a son, Vernon and a daughter, Brenda. This story is as much about Elva as it is about Vernon. In 1947 Vernon became ill with a fever, and if I recall correctly, he died within a few days. I do not think they ever really figured out what he had. He was a sweet boy, very close to his sister, Brenda who I know personally. I never met him, but I heard about him all my life. This family eventually suffered divorce, but Elva went on and raised her daughter alone. She lived every minute into old age, a positive, outgoing personality all her life. She walked everywhere. She was contantly involved in family affairs, and she canned the delicious family pickles every year until her death. All her life, she and all five sisters remained little girls whenever they were together. In fact, any family issues required all five sisters to fix it. In the last photo, only the youngest boy, killed in 1929, is not present. Only the youngest girl is still with us... Emma June, the one on the far right. © 2014 by Dan Kingsley
