FIFA, SLFA DONATE LE 217 MILLION TOWARDS EBOLA FIGHT The President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Madam Isha Johansen on Wednesday August 6, presented on behalf of FIFA and SLFA a cheque of Two Hundred and Seventeen Million Leones (Le 217, 000, 000) to His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma for assist in the fight against the ebola epidemic, which has struck the country and its neighbours in recent months. During her recent visit to the Home of Fifa in Zurich, Switzerland, Madam Johansen seized the opportunity to discuss the ebola epidemic in Sierra Leone and the effect it would have on the game of football in the long run. A partnership between the SLFA as donor and UNICEF as implementing partner in the ebola fight was established. In her statement in front of His Excellency at the State House in Freetown, Madam Johansen said Sierra Leoneans can be assured that UNICEF’s hands on approach and logistical support with provide updates and data analysis on the fight to eradicate the dreaded ebola virus in Sierra Leone and the world in general. “I am confident that UNICEF will use the donation towards the target areas where help is needed most,” President Johansen said. Receiving the cheaque, His Excellency, President Ernest Bai Koroma thanked FIFA, the SLFA and in particular, Madam Johansen for what he described as “her considerable moves towards helping to save lives of the people of Sierra Leone”. He welcomed UNICEF as partners in this fight adding that he is assured that UNICEF would be able to implement and account accordingly. President Ernest Bai Koroma, upon receiving the cheque from the FA President, handed it over to the Minister of Health, Madam Miatta Kargbo, who presented it to the Head of UNICEF in Sierra Leone, Mr Roeland Monasch.
