FIFA has lifted its suspension of the Cameroonian Football Association (FECAFOOT) after announcing that reform measures have been successfully implemented. Earlier this month, world football’s governing body provisionally suspended FECAFOOT, citing government interference in the running of the organisation. FIFA action had been expected after with a series of controversies creating turmoil for FECAFOOT. The governing body’s Elections Appeals Committee last month declared void the resultof elections which retained Iya Mohammed aspresident. Mohammed is currently being investigated over charges of embezzling money at state-owned Cotton Development Company. However, FIFA said on Monday that FECAFOOT has met conditions necessary for its reinstatement. As requested by the FIFA Emergency Committee, the normalisation committee that was appointed on July 20 was able to take up its duties on Monday at the FECAFOOT headquarters, with FIFA and Confederation of African Football (CAF) observers present. FIFA said in a statement: “The lifting of the suspension means that FECAFOOT’s clubs, officials and other representatives can immediately resume theiractivities, which had been interrupted. The same applies for the resumption of the courses and various programmes provided by FIFA, CAF and other member associations. FIFA and CAF will continue to closely monitor the situation, particularly in relation to the revision of the FECAFOOT statutes.” The FIFA suspension had come as Cameroon’schances of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup improved through another FIFA ruling. Cameroon moved one point clear of Libya at the top of African Group I after Togo was found guilty of fielding an illegible player in a qualifier between the two teams. Cameroon had lost the game 2-0, but has been awardedwith a 3-0 win putting it in pole position in the group with one game to play
