FIVE STAR WESTON BUZZING FOR ALDERSHOT TIE : Fresh off the back of an impressive five game unbeaten run and chasing glory on two fronts Weston-super-Mare find themselves five wins from Wembley and all that a game at the home of football brings as they head in to tonight’s F. A. Trophy First Round Replay with Skrill Premier Side Aldershot Town (7:45PM). Sitting only two points off the play-offs in Skrill South and on the verge of a place in the last thirty two of the F. A. Trophy Weston’s remarkable achievements fly in the face of what is reputedly the smallest squad in the league and one decimated to its “bare bones” by injury. Manager Craig Laird paid tribute to his Management Team of Assistant Manager Marc McGregor, Head Coach Robert Boyd and his squad and said “to be two points off the play-offs and five wins from Wembley is testament to the efforts of the management and Squad.” Laird’s selection for tonight’s game see’s Luke Purnell and Kane Ingram sit out with “medium term” injuries whilst the Glasgow born Gaffers choices are further restricted with midfield work horse Brett Trowbridge having sustained a thigh injury in Saturday’s game and likely to be out for just short of two weeks. Alec Fiddes proved an able deputy for Trowbridge on Saturday and scored the equaliser in the last Skrill South game with Sutton United and after waiting patiently for his chance the half-Spanish youngster may be rewarded with a start tonight. One bright spot for Laird sees the return of Vice Captain Jamie Laird meaning Skipper Benjamin Kirk should be allowed to return to a more familiar midfield role. Classy midfielder Ashley Kington will face a late fitness test on a groin injury but is expected to make up part of the match day sixteen whilst Assistant Boss McGregor despite being short on match practise is expected to have to name himself amongst the substitutes. The full time visitors trained yesterday and today before enjoying a leisurely trip to Somerset and a pre-match meal whilst the home side had their collective noses at their respective grindstones in what Laird added is “an indication of the gulf in luxuries between the sides”. A club spokesman said “This is a big game against decent Opposition. I would appeal to any lapsed supporters or any new supporters to come down and give us a try. It is a value for money product on show.” Laird finished by commenting “It would be nice if every Weston Supporter could bring a mate tonight. It would have huge benefit to the club, myself, the management and the squad. Support will be vital tonight.” Weston-super-Mare (from): Irish, Grubb, Slocombe, J. Laird (V.
