FLEX: High School Exchange Program What is FLEX ? «FLEX» – is a program for the high school students In Turkmenistan since 1993 More than 900 students participated in the program 15 finalists in 2014 Who is responsible for the program? Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State American Councils of International Education Who can apply? Be born between 15 March 1997 and 31 May 1999 Be currently enrolled in a secondary school Have English abilities Meet U.S. visa requirements Be a citizen of Turkmenistan Program Timeline Recruitment: September – December 2014 Selection: January – April 2015 Notification: May 2015 Departure: July – August 2015 Testing Round I – registration and 15-minute general test of English Round II - essay Round III – test of English, essay, interview and application In order to participate In order to take part in Round 1, one must meet the program criteria and have the following on the day of the testing: • ones birth certificate or passport • 1 recent photograph 3x4 • a pen Selection Selection takes place in Washington D.C. Selection is made by independent panels of American professionals in education and international relations. English-language ability is important, but it is not the sole element in the selection What does the program provide? Placement with a selected U.S. host family Enrollment in a U.S. secondary school Round-trip domestic and international travel Medical insurance Monthly allowance Program activities arranged in local U.S. communities How will students benefit from the exchange experience?
