FOOD FOR THE SOUL: MARCH 15, 2014 Todays Devotional (FROM UPPER ROOM): 2nd Sunday in Lent Testimony of Nancy Autumn Deimler (Pennsylvania, USA) When five of my relatives visited one night for a family meal, I noticed that we didn’t have enough food to make it around the table. I caught my mom’s eye and nodded at the platter of beef. She understood and made a gesture as if to say, “Don’t worry about it.” Mom finished eating dinner before everyone else; then I realized she had taken the smallest piece of beef to make sure that no one walked away from the table hungry. Many times, I have seen my mom think of others before she thinks of herself. My mom’s loving sacrifices remind me of the ultimate sacrifice God made for us. God sacrificed “his only begotten Son” to atone for our sins. Occasionally, we forget or are simply unaware of how great God’s sacrifice was. We must remember and pass on our understanding of God’s sacrificial love. I have tried to follow my mom’s example of putting others’ needs before her own. Someday I hope to show my children how our daily sacrifices can be small reflections of God’s love. Thought for the Day: Daily sacrifices can be reflections of God’s love. Prayer: Dear Lord, please help us to think of others before we think of ourselves. Amen. Prayer Focus: To learn humility. God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son.- John 3:16 (KJV) --------------------------------- SCRIPTURAL REFERENCE: Ephesians 5:1-2 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children, 5:2 and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. -------- SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT ----------- Matthew 16:26, “What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?—Be a part in spreading the gospel of God. Share this devotional message to your Facebook Friends. Matthew 28:18-20, Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
