FOOD FOR THOUGHT: A True Disciple: Scripture Reading; Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:4. Message: When a certain area of my head began to become bald, it was evident that i have been around for a long time. Because of that sign, people began to ask me, How are Christians today different from Christians when you came to Christ? My answer is always the same: Todays Christians are far better trained to serve the Lord. There are conferences, seminars, and workshops available today that were unheard of in my early years. They also have advanced technology backing them up, making the relative service more manageable than before. However there is one or two things lacking among them: the intense hunger for holiness or purity that was in the lives of Christians a few decades ago. The second thing is that they no longer walk with eternity in mind. Living ones life with a view to go to heaven is no longer a primary aim among todays Christians. What matters most to them is the so called prosperity gospel, which when we examine it in the light of Gods Word, it fails the test. It fails to be consistent with Gods Word. Its prosperity relates to material wealth only. It does not touch other aspects of true prosperity like divine health, (Exodus 15:26), sound mind and spiritual growth. All this is prosperity according to the Bible. (3 John 2). Apostle Paul told the Romans, I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil, (Romans 16:19). The word translated simple also is translated guileless and innocent! The word doesnt come from the field of religion but from the study of metals. There are pure metals - gold, iron - and there are mixed metals - steel, bronze. And that is the word apostle Paul uses to mean unmixed regarding evil. To the Greeks in Corinth, he spelt it out by asking them five questions recorded in 2 Corinthians 6:14-16: * What do righteousness and wickedness have in common? * Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? * What harmony is there between Christ and satan? * What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? *What agreement is there between the themple of God and idols? Brother or sister, its clear, isnt it? Please make good and valuable time to think deeply these questions. I am fully persuaded that the Holy Spirit of truth will reveal deeper truths to you regarding the subject matter which will in turn help you in your endeavour to apply accurate knowledge to your life. Please get me right. This is very importyant: You cannot mix light with darkness, or Christ with satan. Its impossible. Its like trying to mix water and oil. Its impossible. And to make this point, apostle Paul never hesitated to go head-on against the culture in which these new converts were living. He warned them that God had called them to holiness or purity in a culture where chastity was an absolutely unknown virtue. Brother or sister, take your stand. Abstain from fleshly lusts that wage war against the soul. Meditation: Is the light of Christ in you so bright that its like a beacon in this dark world? Prayer: Lord, create in me a hunger for holiness in my life. In Jesus name, Amen. Remain blessed.
