FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 33 Wisdom Keepers From Six Continents Convene in Northern California For URI Global Indigenous Initiative Gathering Friends and All My Relations .....******...... San Francisco, CA – June 30, 2014 – URI’s Global Indigenous Initiative is honored to announce Hidden Seeds of Natural Healing & Curing, a Sacred Gathering occurring June 30 – July 3,2014 at an undisclosed location in Northern California. This 4-day event is being attended by 33 Indigenous Wisdom Keepers from six continents, including two young people ages 13 and 14, for the purpose of engaging in critical dialogue about practical issues and concerns facing their respective communities and humanity at large, and, together, establishing a strategic process for the future of the Global Indigenous Initiative (GII) that grows out of traditional ways of knowing and being. Grounded in traditional ceremony and ritual, Hidden Seeds aims to facilitate an experiential appreciative process of wisdom sharing, whereby spiritual practices that aid community healing and well being will be shared, opportunities for the collective advocacy of Indigenous rights and preservation of sacred spaces will be created, and a deeper level of inclusivity and interfaith observation and participation will be achieved. GII Interim Coordinator and Hidden Seeds Co-convener Audri Scott Williams states, “This Gathering represents 10 years of dreaming;and, now we find ourselves waking up in this dream, full of an awareness that this organic process that honors traditional ways of knowing and being will yield a greater truth for ourselves, humanity, and Mother Earth for generations to come.” For over a decade, Hidden Seeds Co-convener Alejandrino Quispe Mejia, a Quechua elder from Peru, along with a contingent from Latin America, have kept the vision for the URI Global Indigenous Initiative, whose purpose is to give greater voice and visibility to Indigenous wisdom and faith traditions worldwide. URI (United Religions Initiative) is a global grassroots interfaith network that cultivates peace and justice by engaging people to bridge religious and cultural differences, and work together for the good of their communities and the world. .In recent days, several events have occurred worldwide to move the needle on issues that concern Indigenous people, including the unanimous ruling by the British Columbia Supreme Court to grant a major land claim title to the Tsilhqot’in First Nation, and Chilean President Michelle Bachelet’s announcement of a plan to buy and return disputed ancestral lands to Chiles Indigenous communities. GII’s Hidden Seeds of Natural Healing & Curing is being supported by a growing number of virtual ‘space holders’ worldwide, who are gathering in sacred spaces in their own homes and communities in order to energetically ‘join’ this gathering via their prayers and intentions.
