FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Ken Schott (518-229-4604) (schott@dailygazette) March 20, 2014 Subject: ECAC Hockey Media Association Awards St. Lawrence senior forward Greg Carey has been named ECAC Hockey Player of the Year by the ECACH Media Association. Carey, who just signed a contract with the Phoenix Coyotes, led the conference in scoring with eight goals and 27 assists in 22 games. Overall, Carey had 18 goals and 39 assists in 38 games. Union junior Colin Stevens is the Goalie of the Year. In his first year as the No. 1 goalie, Stevens posted a 17-3-1 record with a 1.91 goals-against average, a .929 save percentage and five shutouts. Quinnipiac freshman forward Sam Anas won Rookie of the Year. Anas was the top rookie scorer among forwards with nine goals and 16 assists. Colgate’s Don Vaughan earned Coach of the Year. Vaughan guided the Raiders, a team picked to place ninth in the preseason polls, to a second-place finish with a 13-6-3 record. Union senior Daniel Carr was named the Best Defensive Forward, while teammate Shayne Gostisbehere won Best Defensive Defenseman. The awards were based on league play. The ECACH will announce its award winners Friday, March 21. Player of the Year: Greg Carey, St. Lawrence (runner-up: Daniel Carr, Union). Best Defensive Defenseman: Shayne Gostisbehere, Union (runner-up: Danny Federico, Quinnipiac). All-Conference Teams First team Forwards: Greg Carey (St. Lawrence), Daniel Carr (Union) and Ryan Haggerty (RPI). Defense: Shayne Gostisbehere (Union) and tie between Mat Bodie (Union) and Joakim Ryan (Cornell). Goalie: Colin Stevens (Union). Second team Forwards: Jesse Root (Yale), Kellen Jones (Quinnipiac) and tie between Sam Anas (Quinnipiac) and Mark Naclerio (Brown). Defense: Gavin Bayreuther (St. Lawrence) and Dennis Robertson (Brown). Goalie: Charlie Finn (Colgate). All-Rookie Team Forwards: Sam Anas (Quinnipiac), Mike Carey (St. Lawrence) and Mike Vecchione (Union). Defense: Gavin Bayreuther (St. Lawrence) and Drew Taylor (Union). Goalie: Charlie Finn (Colgate).
