FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Georgia Black Republican Council Elects Thompson New Chairman ATLANTA (June 21, 2013) – The Georgia Black Republican Council, a coalition of conservative black leaders in the state, has elected Rich Thompson of Fulton County as its chairman. A Fulton County businessman, a graduate of Republican Leadership for Georgia and chairman of 100Dads, a fathers’ organization that lobbies for educational choice, Thompson will lead Georgia’s black conservatives into the 2014 election cycle in the state. “We will continue to build upon the solid foundation of black conservative principles that we’ve established for this organization. Boldly, we will work to elevate our voices in saying that our love of God, love of family and love of country is the cornerstone of the life, liberty and freedom that we enjoy because of that love. The exercise of our conservative principles will improve the lives of people of color more than anything else, Thompson said. Our ideas empower people and provide them an opportunity to succeed.” Thompson replaces Michael McNeely of Douglas County who was recently elected 1st Vice Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party. He is joined by incoming 1st Vice Chair Jason Halliburton of Cobb County. Leo Smith will serve as the organization’s vice chairman for public policy. Thompson has been a primary leader in Georgia’s charter school movement, and lobbied for the amendment that was favored by black voters in Georgia more than any other group. He’d previously served as the 1st Vice Chairman of the Black Republican Council and recruited Leo Smith, a former conservative NAACP Chapter President and current Georgia GOP State Committeeman, to a meeting three years ago. Thompson said as the 2014 mid-term elections approach, “There is significant work to do on behalf of our Republican candidates in Georgia. But equally as important, we will play a crucial role influencing the public policy of this state. So now, it’s time for us to roll up our sleeves and get to work.” There will be a key U.S. Senate race as well as congressional races and state legislative races next year.
