FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 9, 2015 RICE MEDICAL CENTER-DIABETES OUTPATIENT TRAINING SITE (DOTS) ACHEIVES ACCREDIATION WITH AADE Extending the availability of diabetes education one program at a time Eagle Lake, TX, January 9, 2015–Rice Medical Center-Diabetes Outpatient Training Site (DOTS) has demonstrated their commitment to the field of diabetes education by putting forth the time and effort necessary to become certified as an accredited program with the American Association of Diabetes Educations (AADE). The medical staff at Rice Medical Center and Rice Medical Associates is proud to be able to provide diabetic teaching for our communities. Diabetes self-management education is a process led by a diabetes educator that helps people with prediabetes or diabetes learn how to self-manage their condition. The goal is to arm each person with the necessary knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their diabetes. Accreditation ensures that each program meets the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support. Rice Medical Center-Diabetes Outpatient Training Site (DOTS), located at 600 S. Austin Rd., will be offering diabetes education classes at Rice Medical Center on Jan 28, Feb 4, Feb 11, 2015 Wednesday afternoons 2pm-6pm. Leslie Kolb MBA, BSN, RN-- Director of Accreditation at AADE-- discusses the significance of accredited programs to people with diabetes, “Diabetes education is underutilized by the people who need it most.
