To date the Caribbean remains Saint Lucia’s third largest source market averaging close to 60 thousand visitors per year. The Tourist Board in partnership with 3 carnival bands, participated in a 4-day consumer tradeshow from May 29 - June 1, 2013 at the popular Galleria Mall in Martinique, where information on events, dates and venues for Lucia Carnival were featured. “This latest marketing effort highlights Lucian Carnival as yet another reason for our Caribbean neighbors to choose Saint Lucia as their summer getaway,” says Deputy Director of Tourism Tracey Warner-Arnold. “We have also focused our attention on the French Market via Martinique where we see much interest in the French participating in our Carnival. Martinique and by extension Guadeloupe, boast a high percentage of repeat carnival visitors eager to play mas here on Saint Lucia annually.” A team of 3 journalists from various media outlets in Martinique will arrive on island in July to provide daily coverage of Lucian Carnival. As part of the regional marketing thrust, carnival jingles and other advertising paraphernalia have begun hitting the airwaves in several Caribbean islands through the Caribbean Super Station (CSS). Dozens of E-blasts messages of the main carnival events are also being sent to SLTB’s extensive regional consumer and trade database. Saint Lucia Carnival commences in June and reaches its climax in July with the colorful two-day parade of the bands in the streets of the capital city Castries. Some of the major events marking the season are the early morning J’ouvert Jump-up, Junior Carnival, Carnival Queen Show Pageant, Calypso Finals, Panorama, and the Groovy and Soca Monarch competitions.
