FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Rally to Defend the Loyalsock from Fracking, November 1 at 1pm On Friday, November 1st, Marcellus Shale Earth First! (MSEF!) will be holding a family-friendly day of action against Anadarkos proposed plans to begin fracking and associated development in the Loyalsock State Forest. The day of events in the forest will begin with a rally featuring local musicians and speakers from RDA, Shale Justice, the Two Row Wampum Renewal Campaign, and MSEF!. The rally will be held at the intersection of Yellow Dog Road and Ellenton Ridge Road from 1:00-2:45pm, and will be followed by guided hikes through the threatened forest, starting at 3:00pm from the same location. A map showing the exact location is available at goo.gl/maps/CMXKX Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, a Houston-based company, has proposed development that would install 26 well pads, miles of pipelines and new access roads, and other associated infrastructure to the wild and highly revered Loyalsock. These plans would decimate thousands of acres of mature forest ecosystems and other unique habitats such as high-elevation wetlands and streams teeming with trout. November 1st is a momentous occasion: its the first day that Anadarko could be legally permitted to start their proposed projects in the Loyalsock, said Hellbender, an MSEF activist who recently spent a month in a tree-sit to blockade development and raise awareness of the impending threat to the forest. It is also the first of hopefully many large-scale demonstrations of community members and activists to stop these projects. By uniting our voices and demonstrating the strength of community opposition, were building a movement that cant be defeated. Loyalsock State Forest is one of the larger remaining wild places in Pennsylvania, containing two streams of exceptional value, Rock Run and Pleasant Stream. It is also home to several endangered and threatened animals including the yellow-bellied flycatcher and the timber rattlesnake. The area is revered by locals and visitors alike for recreation, containing trails that have been recognized internationally for their beauty. This campaign has been going on for almost two years, but now its getting serious, said April Rogers, another member of MSEF. If trucks show up on November 1st, well be there to stop them! Marcellus Shale Earth First! is a regional network of Earth First! members from across the Marcellus Shale, actively involved in direct action to stop shale gas development in Pennsylvania. Members of MSEF! have been working with community organizers in the Keep It Wild campaign for over a year, escalating the struggle to defend the Loyalsock as Anadarko proceeds with its plans to fragment and frack one of the last wild places in PA.
