FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Recipients of Deferred Action (DACA) Demand Expansion of Program on Its Anniversary The President Should Give Undocumented Families Same Relief He Gave Some Dreamers Who: California Immigrant Youth Justice Alliance (CIYJA) When: August 14, 2013 Contact: Neidi Dominguez (626) 456 – 4771 California – On the eve of the one year anniversary of the implementation of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, DACA, immigrant youth demand that President Obama expand the program to all 11 million undocumented people that reside in the U.S now. As we celebrate the anniversary of DACA this summer, we also mark the anniversary of immigrant youth meeting with the White House attorneys and proving that the President had full authority then to grant administrative relief to Dream Act eligible youth. It’s been a year since we gave them an ultimatum and since immigrant youth sat-in Obama campaign offices, finally forcing the President to create the program. Jose Urias, from Rancho Cucamonga, CA, wants the president to know, "I benefited from DACA at the moment when my family and I were detained by ICE, I’m 16 years old and live with the fear of one of these days coming home to an empty house because ICE came again and took my parents. I believe my parents should have the same relief as I do while Congress debates immigration reform.” “If the president granted me DACA then why can’t he do the same for the rest of my family? What makes us different? I want my family to live dignified lives, without fear,” Brisa Cruz from Fresno, CA also claims. Emmanuel Valenciano from Daily City, CA shares that “1,100 people are being deported daily and one of those could be my mom, I have DACA now but I want my mom to live without fear and have peace of mind.” "The President should mark the one year anniversary of the implementation of deferred action by expanding it to the rest of our family members,” Neidi Dominguez, Campaign Manager of the California Immigrant Youth Justice Alliance (CIYJA), states. CIYJA is a Statewide Alliance of 12 grassroots immigrant youth led organizations: San Diego Dream Team (SDDT), Dream Team Los Angeles (DTLA), Los Angeles Immigrant Youth Coalition (L.A IYC), San Gabriel Valley Immigrant Youth Coalition (SGV IYC), San Fernando Valley Dream Team (SFVDT), Orange County Dream Team (OCDT), Inland Empire Immigrant Youth Coalition (I.E IYC), Fresno Immigrant Youth in Action (FIYA), Asian Students Promoting Immigrant Rights through Education (ASPIRE), East Bay Immigrant Youth Coalition (EB IYC), Dream Alliance Sonoma County (DASC), Napa Valley Dream Team (NVDT) ###
