FOR SALE: 1971 Marshall 4x12 Cab. Majority of info and estimate/valuation has been provided by group member Eli Abbott (thank you), Celestion , Bygonetones and Brian Harding of Bygonetones (thank you). And various other online forums/searches and general banter. So Ive got a load of info, from different sources, so Ill use quotes where relevant to help the description. Here goes... The Cab - An original April 1971 Marshall 4x12. One of the first ever checkerboard grill cabs Ply wood build however, The MDF back is original, most people prefer a ply back, but not the end of the world. April 71 is a transitional period for Marshall so you can find both types of back panels with those speakers dates. The handles are the original metal casing and pole style, very heavy duty. No plastic corner bumpers, or plastic head foot wells built in like later year cab builds, Full tolex and piping. The castors are not the original gold coloured Homa branded. They have been replaced by a chrome set. The overall cosmetic condition of the cabinet (wood) is excellent, and the tolex is in very, very decent condition with very minor wear, (for its age). The grill cloth, although not in fantastic condition, is still decent and looks to be the original item. It has the original Marshall logo badge. This is a very nice cab! The Speakers - a pair of celestion greenbacks dated 27th April 1971 The two April 71 speakers are probably original. Marshall used T1511s in their bass cabs, they are actually 55Hz speakers despite the 75hz on the label. They should have white 102/14 stamps on the cones. Those are some of the first ever Rola labelled speakers but are basically the same as pre-rolas apart from the label. The pair of G12T-75s are dated 1992 although not rare, they are well respected speakers and compliment the remaining greenbacks very well. Working order, all speakers are solid, fantastic condition. No rips, tears, scratches etc etc... All mounts are fixed solid. *It would benefit from a clean re-wiring. * please note Ive stated this. As from time to time you can hear that there is a dry/loose connection in the circuit link. Otherwise, Ive been using it at the practice rooms and its an amazing sounding, beautiful piece of rock history! (Had to get that in there 😉 ) All estimates, have valued it as is at £800+ If it had the original quad of green backs, between £1200 - £1400 +With original castors, and the right buyer, it could fetch £1400 - 1500+ So as is, Im asking a solid £800 Id love to restore it, but I have neither the time or money. Im sure Ill regret that in another 10 years or so when its value increases again but there we are. Ive been told that it may be easier/more profitable to strip the cab and sell everything separately, But thats not something Id personally wish to do. Ive attached as many photos as possible. I have many many many more, for those interested. Reply here and or inbox me. Thanks for reading.
