FQ Please post anonymously I just discovered today that my son cheated on a spelling test.... last week!! Apparently the teacher sent a note home to inform me of the incident, to which my son gladly intercepted to avoid getting into trouble. I am a little upset the teacher didnt call/e-mail since everything is done that way. Anyways... We told our son at the beginning of the school year that if he got good grades on all of his spelling tests from then until the first weekend in December that we would treat him to a weekend getaway at the indoor water-park he loves going to, and that he could bring a friend. I told him he could miss one, but if he missed more that we would evaluate his test and go from there. I dont push perfection, I do push for my kids to strive for their best. He is an amazingly bright kid, and so smart, always tests way ahead of other kids his age. He didnt need to cheat, he knew those words. When I asked him why he cheated he said he loses confidence in himself and that he didnt want to let us down and lose his chance at the trip. I truly didnt feel as though we were putting a lot of pressure on him. Never discouraged if he did miss a word on a test. Im at a loss on how to handle this. He is my oldest ( 8 years old ) so I have never had to deal with this before. How would you punish? My SO said to cancel the trip, but I feel that may be a bit harsh since this was not only an incentive for him to have something to strive for, but also a partial birthday present. RP #LILLY
