James Martin states: Jesus didnt want to die. Like any human being, Jesus loved life. And he was passionate, to say the least, about his ministry of preaching and healing. He may have chosen Galilee (not Judea) to begin his ministry because it afforded him more time to carry out his work, further away from the authorities in Jerusalem. In several places in the Gospels, Jesus purposely eludes capture by the authorities. Later in the Garden of Gethsemane he says, If it is possible, remove this cup. Only when he discerns that crucifixion is the end result of obedience to the Father, does he assent. So the idea of Jesus courting death seem inaccurate.
