FREE VETERANS DAY EVENT: OGDEN-Ogden City will host the 2013 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree on Nov. 11 during a special ceremony at the Junction from 4 to 6 p.m. as the grand Engelmann Spruce makes its way across country from Washington State to Washington D.C. The tree will be harvested from the Colville National Forest in northeast Washington State and wrapped on Nov. 1 for its cross-country journey, spending several weeks on the road visiting various communities including Ogden. Ogden business members, U.S. Veterans and school children will participate in the special ceremony at the Junction to honor what’s often referred to as “The People’s Tree,” which symbolizes the towering forests from which it came, and all that nature provides. The six-story tree will arrive on a double flatbed truck and trailer custom fit with a bladder that will be filled with 65 gallons of fresh water daily to feed the tree day throughout the trek. The tree will not be removed from the truck but will be available for viewing thorough Plexiglas windows. People who come to see the tree can also sign the large banners that wrap the 105 foot truck, before it moves on to the next stop. We are asking people who come to the event to bring a holiday card addressed to a member of our military, those who are stationed overseas and will not be home for the holidays. We want every one of our men or women who are serving, to get a personalized notecard from home, letting them how much their commitment it means to us here. Our goal is 1000 cards. Please come and celebrate our freedom on Veterans Day, November 11th 2013 from 4-6 pm at The Junction. 23rd & Washington Blvd. Ogden. (parking to the west in parking terrace)
