FRIDAY PREVIEW: PUT STUDENTS IN SETS FROM 11 YEARS OLD I want to know if you think it would be a good idea to separate school pupils into sets based on their ability from the age of 11. That’s what school inspectors are suggesting - they reckon it’ll help more gifted students to reach their potential by giving them more challenging work. But what about the less gifted? Does this effectively write off less able children, who may struggle to shake off the label of underachiever? Or is the current system just holding back the best and brightest?
