FROM: AMIR DARSHAN DATE: 19th Aug.,, 2013 – Mon. Market Brief The USD was slightly stronger against most major currencies as widespread speculation continued in financial markets about whether the Fed will use its meeting next month to announce a winding down of its bond-buying program. Indicators published Friday were somewhat disappointing, with a key gauge of consumer confidence falling short of expectations. But investors also were focusing on the unexpectedly large drop in the number of people filing for unemployment benefits reported Thursday, which fuelled expectations the Fed will follow through with a tapering of its bond-buying in September. Stocks declined with the Dow falling 0-2% and the Nasdaq shedding 0-1%. The Treasury bond market took another heavy beating, sending benchmark yields to the highest level in more than two years. December Comex gold rose $10.10 to settle at $1,371 a troy ounce.
