FROM: Carla Murphy I wasnt diagnosed until age 13 (now Im 29) with Aspergers, teachers and other staff knew there was something different about me and never made my parents aware there was a problem when they asked point blank; teachers and school staff had me tested for special education and put me in speech therapy and stopped it all in elementary school because they deemed/labeled me as unworthy all without my parents knowledge. I did not tell them of my experience until recently because I was afraid of how they would react. It wasnt until it was in high school that I was given the tests I so desperately needed because my mom had to threaten legal action because I was struggling in school. After the tests showed I had a LD and was entitled accommodations under ADA and was entitled to an IEP the school was still fighting tooth and nail until my mom got the ADA officer involved and threatened legal action again. Has anybody else had experiences like or similar to mine and how did you deal with it?
