FROM IFES DESK NIGERIA TODAY: THE FEIGNED HERO IN ODUMEGWU OJUKWU BY THE IGBOS Odumegwu Ojukwu, the warlord regarded as the hero and most valiant Igbo man who led his people on an unsuccessful yet needful revolution, has been widely celebrated since those years of the virulent civil war. He has been beautified using countless traditional titles all depicting his bravado. Ikemba, as he is widely known, to the Igbos is a Jesus Christ in black flesh from Nnewi and is just irreplaceable. The reverence of the Igbo people for this man know no bounds; and I dare say, that he wouldnt have been able to win the heart of adorable Bianca were he just a freaking trader at Onitsha Bridge Head or Ochanja. Despite his flaws, Igbos love him to bits even after death. Their faith in his judgment saw the massive acceptance of Peter Obi who was not known by anyone as the Executive Governor of Anambra State. Many people rode and still ride on the favor carriage within the State and beyond just by associating with Ikemba. Now, I ask? Are these not mere pretensions of appreciation only in matters that favor Anambrarians? Has the Igbo people really demonstrated its reverence for this man in clear terms? Are Anambrarians merely selfish in their shew of respect? Has this gratitude being shown truly or can it be taken to another level? Is this lopsided appreciation for the warlord really enough? Just asking ....
