FROM OBSCURITY TO AWARD CONTENDER, ITS BEEN AN INCREDIBLE YEAR FOR THE G-MAN INTERVIEWS. With less than two months until we usher in a brand new year, Im profoundly thankful for the blessings of 2013, with regard to the accomplishments of my YouTube series. As some of you may know, The G-Man Interviews, an independent news and information source based in Harlem, is a one-man operation. I have no staff and have not received ad revenue, compensation, or funding for the 25 episodes that have been produced since the show was launched back in January of this year. In 2013, my show received the endorsement of four journalism icons, including Dr. Les Payne, co-founder of the National Association of Black Journalists. Dr. Payne is also a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and the former managing editor of Newsday. In April of this year, the show was acknowledged and praised, via an official letter, by the South Korean government for its coverage of the Korean conflict, and another episode played a crucial role in the U.S. Justice Department’s decision to launch an investigation into possible civil rights violations by the Omaha Police Department. Recently, my episode on military suicides was lauded by officials at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. In addition, my work has been praised by Emmy award-winning news producer Tom Osborne, formerly of ABC World News Tonight....with Peter Jennings, and Jim Flink, Vice President and General Manager of the award-winning news organization Newsy. In December, my show will compete to become a finalist at this years Webby Awards, which is considered the Oscars of the Internet world. Im David going up against media Goliaths like The Drudge Report, The Huffington Post, The Grio, ABC, CBS, and NBC News and others in the category of Best Online News and Information Series - Video. Ive gone from a position of obscurity to award contender, and it all happened because of Gods compassion and my desire to report on what the mainstream news organizations chooses to ignore. Win or lose, Ill take great pride in knowing I have family and friends who support my work....and my effort to represent the Harlem community and independent journalism to the best of my ability. Thank you, and God bless.
