FROM THE NEWSROOM: A Central Hastings O-P-P officer has pleaded guilty to assault and two counts of mischief in connection with incidents involving his domestic partner. An official at Belleville Superior Court says the man, whose name couldnt be released to protect the identity of the female victim, entered the pleas yesterday afternoon, ending a trial that began on Monday. The officer was originally charged by the O-P-P last year with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and mischief to property in relation to incidents involving the woman between 2007 and 2012, including her jaw being broken in May of last year. However, he pled guilty to the lesser charges, and not guilty to aggravated assault after a plea bargain was reached between the Crown and the defence. He will be back in court on December 12th when a sentencing date may be scheduled. The location of the incidents also wasnt released to ensure the victims privacy.
