FROM THE NEWSROOM: A Willimantic man accused of breaking the arms of a child he was caring for in December of 2013 appeared in Danielson Superior Court today; 27-year-old John Heald posted and was released on bond, which had been set at $50,000. Heald is scheduled to return to court on July 1st. As reported, in a press release, state police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance said that troopers with the Eastern District Major Crime Squad arrested Heald, of Haven Avenue, Willimantic, by warrant Tuesday. The suspect was charged with third degree assault and risk of injury to a minor. Vance said that a criminal investigation began in late December of last year after authorities learned that a young boy who was under Healds care sustained injuries, including two broken arms, when Heald allegedly grabbed the child by the arms in an attempt to “correct the childs behavior.” Tune in for the report.
