FROM THE NEWSROOM: According to the Connecticut Childrens Medical Center, “Nearly four out of five car seats are used incorrectly.” The Putnam Elks have shared this startling statistic ahead of an annual event in Putnam, where trained technicians check the installation of child safety seats in cars – free of charge – during the Safe Kids Connecticut program that will be held this afternoon. The Putnam Elks yearly sponsor the event in partnership with the Putnam Police Department, Safe Kids Windham County and other child advocacy groups. Officer Jamie Glaude says trained professionals will be stationed at the Riverview Market Place Pavilion on Kennedy Drive from 1 -- 3 p.m. this afternoon. Officer Glaude says everyone who has a child that rides in a car seat should have that seat checked by a professional; he says that in Windham County, three out of four car seats are installed incorrectly, and may take a minor fix by a professional who knows what to look for. The Putnam Elks note that you must bring both your child and your vehicle to the event. For more information, visit ctsafekids.org.
