FROM THE NEWSROOM: BERLIN, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut shoppers will soon get a temporary reprieve on their state sale taxes. Starting Sunday, Aug. 17 and lasting through Saturday, Aug. 23, the 6.35 percent sales and use tax will not be applied on purchases of clothing and footwear costing less than $300. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy planned to hold a news conference on Thursday at Mickey Finns, a Berlin clothing retailer, to remind residents about the week-long tax break. It is set to coincide with the back-to-school shopping season. The Democrat, who is seeking re-election, is scheduled to be joined by Department of Revenue Services Commissioner Kevin Sullivan and other state and local officials. Shoppers can visit the DRS website at ct.gov/drs to find examples of clothing and footwear items that will be exempt from the tax.
