FROM THE NEWSROOM: Central Village Fire Company in Plainfield is celebrating its 100th anniversary Saturday. To commemorate the milestone, the fire company will hold an event tomorrow that will feature high angle rescue and EMT demonstrations, car cutting, and firefighting antiques - including a 1962 FZ 50 engine. Ray Norris, of the Central Village Fire Company, said the department has a long history, that began after the Central Hotel caught fire in the early 20th century. Today, volunteer firefighters with the company respond to approximately 20 calls per month and service 4,400 homes. Norris says that keeping the station alive and running for the last ten decades has not been an easy task with an all-volunteer staff. However, he is thankful that Central Village has several families who, for generations, have stuck around and become staples of the department. The anniversary celebration lasts from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. at 53 Black Hill Road, Central Village.
