FROM THE NEWSROOM: HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal says more federal resources are needed to address border security issues, but to also provide due process to the thousands of migrant children streaming into Texas who may be able to reunite with parents or close relatives in this country. Blumenthal, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committees Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security, was part of a bipartisan group of lawmakers that traveled to the U.S. border with Mexico last week to see the situation firsthand, describing it as a humanitarian crisis. During a conference call Monday, Blumenthal said his visit was a very emotional experience. He described a holding area with cement floors where the children barely had room to lie down. He said the U.S. cannot send them home en masse.
