FROM THE NEWSROOM: HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut Republicans will decide Tuesday whether to give their 2010 gubernatorial candidate a second chance at winning the states top job or else choose a veteran state senator to challenge Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in the November general election. The contest between Greenwich businessman Tom Foley and Fairfields Senate Minority Leader John McKinney for the Republican nomination is the marquee race in this years primary. Republicans also must choose nominees for lieutenant governor and comptroller, while both Republicans and Democrats will pick candidates in numerous legislative races. Foley received the GOPs endorsement at the May state convention and is considered the favorite in the race. But McKinney and his running mate, former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker, have been running an aggressive campaign, funded with public financing. Turnout was expected to be light.
