FROM THE NEWSROOM: It’s been a long time coming, but the Brooklyn Board of Education is continuing to look for a fire alarm system for their Elementary and Middle Schools. The long process is due, in part, to their problem getting an accurate estimate for the endeavor. In the past, the Board has hired a consultant but did not receive the findings. When they attempted to calculate their own estimates, they ran into problems when the Board realized they did not know everything that would be needed for the schools to have a more connected system. Their next step is to meet with the Capital Committee to come up with a more comprehensive plan for the next fiscal year. The Elementary School does not even have a sprinkler system, according to the Chairman of the Board of Education Mae Lyons, and the need to keep the schools up to code and safe for children is making the alarm system an important project. Lyons said the alarm systems would be funded and bonded with the Town as a Capital project. Stay tuned for more information.
