FROM THE NEWSROOM: The East Putnam Fire District has received an offer to be reimbursed with a supplemental cash payment of approximately $25,000 to cover damages the department incurred following a dispute over a promised loan from the USDA for construction of the new $3.3 million fire station. According to District President Doug Cutler Jr., the district had accumulated an approximately $25,000 in interest expenses due to delays in paying off a construction loan to a local bank, as well as legal fees, because the USDA reversed its previous decision to honor a 40 year loan for technical reasons related to state statute. But, thanks to efforts from Congressman Joe Courtney, the USDAs reimbursement offer is expected to cover most of the losses associated with the dispute, Cutler said; as reported, the USDA previously announced it would indeed honor the loan contract. Tune in tomorrow for the full story.
