FROM THE NEWSROOM: The Woodstock Fair has announced its Main Stage entertainment lineup for the 153rd annual event coming up on Labor Day weekend, Aug. 30-Sept. 2 on Route 169 in South Woodstock, CT. One of the hottest new groups in country music, Thompson Square, will headline the Fair’s offerings with one show on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 8 p.m. Thompson Square was recently chosen as the Academy of Country Music Awards Vocal Duo of the Year. The husband and wife duo recently released a new album, “Just feels Good,” and will perform their No. 1 single, “Are You Going to Kiss Me or Not.” On Saturday, Aug. 31, the Happy Together Tour lands in Woodstock for one performance at 8 p.m. The Turtles, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, Chuck Negron (former lead singer of Three Dog Night), Mark Lindsay (former lead singer of the Raiders) and Gary Lewis and the Playboys will all perform in the same show. The Turtles had the No. 1 hit that the Tour is named after, Happy Together, in 1967 followed by other chart-toppers including “She’d Rather Be with Me” and “It Ain’t Me, Babe.” Gary Puckett and the Union Gap were famous for songs such as “Young Girl,” “Lady Willpower,” and “Woman, Woman.” Chuck Negron makes a return visit to Woodstock where he has performed many of Three Dog Night’s 11 top-10 hits and 21 chart-topping singles from “Joy to the World,” to “Black-and-White,” and “Liar.” Mark Lindsay is known for his powerful renditions of “Indian Reservation” and “Arizona,” while Gary Lewis and the Playboys had eight gold singles including the No. 1 hit, “This Diamond Ring.” Survivor will begin the festivities on Friday night with one show at 8 p.m. Best known for their mega-hit “Eye of the Tiger,” which is still widely played throughout the entertainment spectrum, Survivor also had hits like “I Can’t Hold You Back,” “Burning Heart” and “The Search is Over.” For something different, at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 2, the Woodstock Fair welcomes the Red Hot Chilli Pipers. This group, direct from Scotland, performed at the 2012 Olympics in London and will give fairgoers something totally different to listen to – rock music performed with bagpipes. In addition, the Main Stage will also feature the juggling expertise and comedy of Los Angeles- based Project Dynamite with two shows each Friday through Sunday. Also on hand will be the Idol Kings with tributes to Journey and John Cougar Mellencamp on Monday; local bands, Cold Train (Friday), Meleana (Saturday), and Smokehouse (Sunday); Mr. Magic, and the Danielson Martial Arts Academy. General admission to the Woodstock Fair is $12, senior citizens (65-plus) $8, 10-years-old and under free. Parking at the Woodstock Fair and surrounding lots is $5. The Woodstock Fair offers a wide variety of agricultural exhibits from animals to foods and crafts, animal and farm equipment competitions, a birthing center, carnival rides by Fiesta Shows, and a wide variety of food that can be found nowhere else.
