FROM THE NEWSROOM: The bid for installation of a mechanical screen - TopicsExpress

FROM THE NEWSROOM: The bid for installation of a mechanical screen for $88,000 at the Plainfield Village treatment plant was recently awarded to Fuss & ONeill and Lakeside Equipment, despite Lakesides bid coming in $5,000 more than the low bidder. First Selectman Paul Sweet says the proposed equipment for the higher bidder is stainless steel, and so town officials decided that paying more for a better quality product was worth the extra cost – he also says the low bid that came in also contained an add-on of $152,000. Sweet also say the Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA) also approved two change orders for K&H Construction, LLC for additional work at the same plant; Sweet says what he calls a “mess” of concrete foundation material underground was recently discovered, and it was most prudent to spend $24,000 now to get the area cleaned up before a future generation runs into it again when trying to expand due to the already-limited space at the facility. The other change order was $8,000 to upgrade an 8-inch discharge pipe to a 12-inch pipe. Tune in for the full report.
