FROM THE NEWSROOM: The new Walmart in Brooklyn has created a significant increase in traffic, both pedestrian and vehicular, in the Rt. 6 area, according to Northeastern Connecticut Council of Government Executive Director John Filchak, prompting to council to apply for funding to construct sidewalks in the area. The sidewalk from Danielson only goes to the intersection of Day St.; people have to walk the rest of the way to the super center in the snow, or on the side of the road, creating a safety concern for local officials. In a unanimous decision, NECCOG voted Friday to move forward with an application for Worcester Urban Funds to address the issue. The application will be for approximately $370,000 to complete the sidewalk, but as all matters involving communication with the state, Filchak says that it could take several months to get a response. Tune in for the full report.
