FROM THE NEWSROOM: The oil tank in the Pomfret Community School hasnt been cleaned in 20 years and needs immediate attention, according to Board of Education Vice Chairman, Kate Cerrone. While Pomfret had the oil tank line item in their budget, Selectman Maureen Nicholson let the Board know that cleaning the tank is not considered a capital project. Because of this, the school will pay the $5,000 to get the oil tank cleaned, but the town will pay the other half – another $5,000 – for an electronic monitoring system for the schools oil tank.
