FROM THE NEWSROOM: The winter portion work of the ongoing Danielson streetscape project is nearing completion, according to Killingly Town Manager Sean Hendricks, who says all of the lights have been installed. According to Hendricks, all the lights south of the downtown railroad tracks are currently lit, but town officials are still awaiting Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) to activate the power to the transfer box to ensure the rest of the lights can also be illuminated by around New Years Day, tomorrow. However, Hendricks says some areas that were damaged during concrete pouring need to be fixed by the contractor once the weather warms up – Hendricks also confirmed that the town is shooting to be on the state Department of Transportations (DOT) list to have Main Street paved from Route 6 to Route 101 around July and August of 2015. But what about parking? Hendricks says because the old curbs had sunken into the ground over the years, drivers had gotten into the habit of parking on the sidewalks, which is why temporary “no parking” signs predominately on the northbound side have been installed – however, parking is still allowed on both sides of Main Street. But, moving forward, town officials are working with the DOT, the aim being to limit parking on Main Street to probably just the northbound side once the paving project is finished during the summer – he explained that the road is narrow, and adding ten feet for a parking space and two eleven foot driving lanes, the entire width of the road is consumed. Tune in for details.
